The Oxford Dictionary defines breakout as “a forcible escape, especially from prison,” or “suddenly and extremely popular or successful, like a breakout movie.” Now there is
a brilliant contrast:
1. Breakout from the prison of our minds.
2. Breakout towards our next success.
What do your Breakouts look like? Do you need to Breakout of brain fog, low energy, or high negativity? Do you need to break through a spiritual blockage, a poor company culture, or a stalled personal relationship? How often does your mind stay stuck? How do you know? How will you change it?
Breakouts are turning points, turnarounds, adjustments in thinking and doing, that spark momentum. In sport they focus on advancing, moving energy from defence to offence. In my game, the game of hockey, Breakouts are an opportunity to regroup, pick up speed, advance on, and attack the opponent. They are not hoped for; they are intentional, calculated, practiced, and an essential part of a winning team’s structure.
Breakouts are complicated, complex challenges to our mental game, played in a thinking arena. Improving our ability to Breakout of and live above the world’s increasing
sinkhole of negativity is an essential skill to master.
I received the following email from one of our readers, who contacted me in reaction to one of my blog posts at ryanwalter.com:
“Hi Ryan - just wanted to say thank you for that timely article. It’s a breadcrumb for me - showing me I am on the right path to re-training my brain! Perfect timing. In my youth and 20s I used the power of my mind to believe I was a world beater, and looking back, I was... ...Things change over time... life happens. Over the past decade, I have been defrauded by a business partner (which set me back mentally and from a trust perspective), sacked by my manager for my faith and my approach to management,
and recently lost my good friend and business partner to cancer.
Over this time, I completely lost track of the garbage I was telling myself. It was all doom and gloom, looking out for the negatives instead of focusing on the positive. I took a good hard look at myself and my thinking and decided to start rewiring my brain. It’s not easy when you let it get so frazzled, but I take time each day to pray, to visualise, and
to speak positive affirmations to myself.
This week has been particularly hard, but reading your article was the breadcrumb I needed to keep going and confirm it IS possible to stay the course and to realise that change can happen. The world is not out to get me... unless I let it.
You might never have realised when writing that article how it would affect people, but I wanted to share this very real and personal example of the positive effect it’s had on
me today. Thank you!”
Our deep desire in writing BREAKOUT is to spark next Future-Positive steps for people who need gentle reminders, or potential new starts. Enjoy the read, keep BREAKING OUT!
